Houseless
Heyooooo people! It be me, your friendly neighborhood [s]Spiderman[/s] Oz!
Soooo yeah, you might...probably haven't seen me on here for a while. Well, that's because my laptop's screen got screwed up when my sister dropped it, my kitchen computer's internals got overheated (don't even ask me how, it's what the Comcast guy said), and then my parents split up (again), and then we are here, with me using my sister's laptop.
Now that we are done with that, let's get onto what this article is actually about, shall we?
Cosmic Blazer, the upcoming set that brings a whole new slew of odd competitiveness to the meta. You have the Heraldic Beasts, well, you know, they will always only be decent. You got the Zexal Weapons, they are cool, fun, and all, but an archetype that practically REQUIRES an exact XYZ on the field would never really be that good, especially when you have to play a few Level 5s, which will make any deck inconsistent. You even got a whole bunch of new Fish-Type support (which I surely wouldn't have done in a set that emphasizes on FIRE Attributes...). And finally, you have the Fire Fists. Oh boy, these guys are great. The deck is expected to be top tier once its arrival comes, and I have labeled them as "Inzektors 2.0" on several occasions. It's probably the most anticipated archetype at the moment, but the thing is, I don't think it's good enough to be outshining the OTHER FIRE Archetype coming our way.
Structure Deck: Assault of the Flame King, the structure deck containing the better FIRE Archetype, the Fire Kings. I mean, Fire Fists are pretty sweet, but they are Fists, and the Fire Kings are, well, they are KINGS. And you know what the say, you can't touch da Kiiiing. This archetype really brings truth to that saying, haha. Let's get into this article, kiddies.
Types: Winged Beast/Effect
Level: 4
ATK/DEF: 2700/1700
Effect: During the next Standby Phase after this card was destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard: Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. When you do: Destroy all other monsters on the field. When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: Special Summon 1 "Fire King" monster from your Deck, except "Fire King High Avatar Garunix".
My Opinion: The Boss Monster of Boss Monsters. Every time he is destroyed by a card effect (which is the way you are going to have to destroy it most of the time), he is resurrected the next Standby Phase, then he Nukes the field. So it's just a constant Black Rose, but this time Black Rose decided not to commit suicide. And if you finally do find a way to hit over it, Garunix special summons another Fire King from your deck. To cool for school, yo.
Attribute: FIRE
Types: Beast-Warrior/Effect
Level: 4
ATK/DEF: 1800/200
Effect: If a face-up "Fire King" monster you control is destroyed by a card effect: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can destroy 1 card you control or in your hand. You can only use this effect of "Fire King Beast Yaksha" once per turn.
My Opinion: Yes, you did just read it correctly. You can destroy any card you control or in your HAND. Garunix in hand? No problemo, Yaksha. Need to get a search from Barong, easy peezy lemon squeezy, Yaksha. Oh yeah, and Yaksha gets his effect by being destroyed in any way. Solemn Warning actually helps you out.
Fire King Beast Barong
Attribute: FIRE
Types: Beast-Warrior/Effect
Level: 4
ATK/DEF: 1800/200
Effect: If a face-up "Fire King" monster you control is destroyed by a card effect: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. During the next Standby Phase after this card was destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard: Add 1 "Fire King" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Fire King Avatar Barong".
My Opinion: Yet another great card. He is basically your Stratos of the deck. Easily get him destroyed, then go ahead and fetch any of your Fire King "cards". Yes, you can get either of your deck's amazing spells too. So good.
Types: Beast/Effect
Level: 3
ATK/DEF: 1000/200
Effect: If a face-up "Fire King" monster you control is destroyed by a card effect: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 FIRE monster from your Deck to the Graveyard.
My Opinion: Qilin is decent, not the greatest, but certainly not a bad card. You use it as a Foolish Burial. You dump what you need to for Wolfberk or Rekindling. The fact that it's Level 3 is pretty disappointing though, makes it less-effective with Rekindling.
Types: Spell/Normal
Effect: If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters: Special Summon 1 FIRE Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast-Type monster from your Deck. Its effects are negated and it is destroyed during the End Phase. You can only activate 1 "Assault of the Fire Kings" per turn.
My Opinion: Great first turn card, and a great card to bring you right back into the game if your field is the one that just got swept. It allows you to bring out ANY card in your deck, except your Pyrorex (which you should be playing without a doubt).
Fire King Fire Cycle
Types: Spell/Quick-Play
Effect: Target 1 FIRE monster you control and 1 FIRE monster in your Graveyard; destroy the first target on the field, and if you do, Special Summon the second target. You can only activate only 1 "Fire King Fire Cycle" per turn.
My Opinion: Wow, this card. I have the balls to say that this card is better than Monster Reborn for this deck, all because it specifies "destroy the first target on the field". This means that you could destroy a Garunix and get a Nephthys, destroy a Barong and get a Garnux, destroy a Barong and get a Wolfberk, it's just amazing. Maybe a little to amazing if you catch my drift...
Fire Kings have what I would say, the most unique playstyle that I've seen in a very long time. This playstyle is Self-Destruction. Yeah, you read me correctly. Self-Destruction. The best part about it to me, is that their playstyle stays very true to their Attribute. Flames are self-destructive and stuff, so it's pretty kewl to me.
By "Self-Destructive", I mean by using the effects of Fire King High Avatar Garunix, Fire King Avatar Yaksha, Sacred Phoenix of Nepthys, Onslaught of the Fire Kings, Fire Kings' Fire Ring, and even Torrential Tribute and Needle Ceiling, to just start going off on your opponent by plussing x1,000. Oh yeah, and did I mention that you get constantly recurring Boss Monsters. Oh I didn't? Well, you know now. And with these boss monsters, you just keep on slapping your opponent's life points till they do something about it, or until they scoop, whichever one comes first.
Because it's OP. Who doesn't like blowing up your opponent's monsters, spells, and trap cards, then being able to make a Rank 4 XYZ for pretty much any occasion? I'll tell you who. Pansies. THAT'S WHO.
So yeah dudes and dudets, I highly encourage you to try out this amazingly amazing archetype. I hope you enjoyed this article, and once the archetype becomes more familiar around the community I'll try to update this article with decklists and playstyles of any interesting variants.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
